Friday, Sept. 30: At 9 am staff at Kum and Go reported two shopliftings that had occurred there. The business is gathering video of the event for the officer’s investigation. At 3:36 pm a complainant reported the unauthorized use of her debit card at two ATM locations in Jefferson. She reported someone had used her cards to withdraw money from her account without her permission. The officer is investigating. At 4:21 pm a complainant reported his 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix had been damaged while parked at Greene County High School. The vehicle suffered a deep scratch to the paint. The officer estimated the damage at $150 to repair. The owner suspects someone keyed the vehicle. At 5 pm a complainant reported her son’s vehicle had been keyed at the high school. The damage was estimated at $150. At 10:08 pm an officer assisted a deputy with a possible suicidal subject from Churdan who was reported to be at Sparky’s One Stop.

Thursday, Sept. 29: At 2 am an officer witnessed a driver squeal the tires on his vehicle as he left the posted stop sign at Lincoln Way and Chestnut St. The officer performed a traffic stop with the vehicle near Lincoln Way and Elm St. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Brice Neil Smith, 21, of Grand Junction for operating while intoxicated- first offense (serious misdemeanor)* and careless driving. At 2:40 pm officers were advised of a barking dog in the 300 block of N. Maple St. The owner had been previously warned by police about the barking issue. The animal’s owner was cited for barking dog – annoyance or disturbance and annual animal license required. At 3:39 pm an officer arrested James Michael Lefeber, 34, of Jefferson on an outstanding JPD arrest warrant for theft-fifth degree*.

The arrest warrant stemmed from an investigation that began May 29 at a residence in the 100 block of Harding Road. At 3:49 pm officers were requested to meet a reported victim of an assault at a residence in the 500 block of N. Locust St. A juvenile female reported that her stepfather had pushed her, causing her to fall and injure her ear. The officer made contact with the stepfather and learned he had an active Polk County arrest warrant for failure to appear for OWI- second offense. Robert Richard Kovar, 32, of Jefferson was arrested on the warrant. The reported assault is still under investigation by the officer.

Wednesday, Sept. 28: At 5:05 pm management at Doc’s Stadium reported receiving a fraudulent check from a customer on Aug. 26. The officer is investigating.

Tuesday, Sept. 27: At 7:06 pm the mayor turned two purses over to an officer he had located in his yard in the 800 block of W. Washington St. No personal property was located in the purses to show ownership.

Monday, Sept. 26: At 2:21 pm an officer arrested Stacie Maureen Clark, 38, of Jefferson on an outstanding JPD arrest warrant. Officers began an investigation on Sept. 19 when they were called to a residence in the 500 block of N. Oak St at 9:30 pm. Clark reported being stabbed in the abdomen by an unknown male while in her back yard. The investigation showed no evidence to support her reported events. Officers concluded during the investigation that evidence proves that the event was falsely reported. Clark has been charged with false report of indictable offense to public entity (serious misdemeanor)*. Clark was booked into the jail and released on her own recognizance, per the arrest warrant. She was taken to the Greene County Medical Center emergency room to be evaluated by a medical doctor. At 5:08 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle property damage accident at N. Locust and E. Washington St. Caitlin Dickson of Grand Junction was northbound on Locust driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier. Alan Ferguson of Jefferson was westbound on Washington driving a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Dickson advised she did not see the approaching vehicle. She was cited for failure to obey a yield sign. Damage to her Cavalier was estimated at $1,500. Damage to Ferguson’s pickup truck was estimated at $450. At 5:41 pm a complainant reported juveniles throwing rocks at the army tank near the bike trail in the 600 block of E. Lincoln Way. All officers were unavailable and a Greene County deputy assisted by taking the call.

Sunday, Sept. 25: At 7:57 am a complainant reported a barking dog at a residence in the 300 block of South St. The officer is attempting to speak with the animal’s owner. At 9:58 am a resident turned in a wallet he had located in a yard in the 300 block of S. West St. The officer made contact with the wallet’s owner and learned of a vehicle burglary overnight at a residence in the 800 block of W. Monroe St. A pair of sandals and the wallet had been removed from the vehicle. At 7:30 pm an officer arrested Craig Allen Kinsey of Jefferson on an outstanding probation violation arrest warrant.

Saturday, Sept. 24: At 12:26 am a complainant reported her daughter’s purse had been stolen from her vehicle while she attended the high school football game earlier in the evening. A checking debit card from the stolen purse had been used at a local bank ATM to obtain $200 in cash from her account. The officer is working to obtain video of the ATM transaction and is still investigating. At 9 am while on patrol an officer ran a computerized check of a registration on a vehicle parked at Wild Rose Casino and learned the plate did not belong on the vehicle. Officers made contact with Wild Rose Casino security staff, who watched video of a male driving to the casino in the vehicle. The male was still present inside the facility. Officers had noticed drug paraphernalia in plain sight inside the parked vehicle. The officers made contact with the male inside the casino. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Chad Allen Prichard, 34, of Arcadia for driving while barred.* Officers obtained a search warrant and executed it on the vehicle to retrieve the suspected drug paraphernalia and narcotics. Further charges are pending for Prichard on the suspected narcotics after receiving lab results on the seized items. At 10:52 am a complainant reported a burglary to her unlocked vehicle parked in the 800 block of W. Monroe St. Loose change and electronic items had been stolen from the vehicle. At 12:27 pm a complainant reported the theft of prescription medication from her purse after visiting a relative in the 100 block of S. Grimmell Road. The officer is investigating.

Friday, Sept. 23: At 1:33 pm a resident reported smoke coming from under an apartment door at the Shamrock Apartments at 305 N. Wilson. She advised no one answered the door when she knocked. Officers arrived and made entry into the apartment. The Jefferson fire department arrived and assisted. No one was home in the apartment. A pan had been left cooking on the stove and caused a large amount of smoke. No damage occurred to the apartment. At 4:15 pm a complainant reported a suspicious female looking into car windows at Regency Park Nursing & Rehab. At 7:30 pm a complainant reported someone had removed all the pears from his pear tree at a residence in the 300 block of N. High St. At 8:08 pm a complainant reported someone had gone through her parked vehicle in the 1400 block of Southfield Drive. Nothing was reported to be missing from the vehicle. At 11:18 pm a complainant reported his vehicle had been gone through while it was parked at the high school football game. Nothing was reported to be missing from the vehicle.

Thursday, Sept. 22: At 12:48 am an officer responded to 108 W. Wilcox Way along with the Jefferson fire department and Greene County EMS for a reported residential fire. It was reported to the officer that the fire had originated in the basement. The officer spoke with the resident, Jackson Henry Naylor, who lives in the basement. Naylor informed the officer he was using a butane torch in his basement bedroom. He advised he left his room and returned to the smell of smoke. The officer asked Naylor why he was using a butane torch. Naylor advised the officer he was “just messing round”. Shortly after, the firefighters advised the officer they had located drug related items in the basement. Naylor gave consent to the officer to search the basement. The officer located a smoking device containing marijuana in the basement. Naylor advised he had been smoking marijuana the night prior. As a result of the investigation, Jackson Henry Naylor, 23, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana – serious misdemeanor and possession of drug paraphernalia*. Damage to the house was confined to the basement. At 10:44 am an officer was advised of a loose dog running in the 700 block of N. Cedar St. The officer was able to chase the animal back home. The animal’s owner was issued a verbal warning for the animal at large. At 1:42 pm staff at Casey’s General Store (N. Elm) reported a shoplifting to an officer. The investigation continues.

Wednesday, Sept. 21: At 1:31 am an officer witnessed a suspicious vehicle in the Shopko. After speaking with a male and a female in the vehicle, they were reportedly stopping in the parking lot to get some sleep as they were passing through town and were tired. The officer determined there is a no contact order between the two through Carroll County. As a result, Tamara Holmes-Cherry, 36, of Carroll was charged with aiding and abetting a violation of a no contact order (simple misdemeanor)*. Matthew Alan Cherry, 34, of Carroll was charged with violation of a no contact order (simple misdemeanor)*. At 5:40 am staff at Kum & Go reported a theft of fuel for about $60. An officer is investigating the incident. At 9:30 pm officers spoke with a large group of high school students who attempted to vandalize the high school with toilet paper. They were instructed to stay off the property.

Tuesday, Sept. 20: At 2:58 pm a complainant reported the theft of a planting pot from a residence in the 700 block of S. Locust St. At 7:39 am a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 500 block of S. Oak St for an intoxicated male who would not leave the residence. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Vincent Andrew Ratliff, 58, of Jefferson for public intoxication and disorderly conduct (simple misdemeanors)*.  During the evening officers were advised three times of youngsters throwing toilet paper and once of youngsters wearing masks running through a yard.

Monday, Sept. 19: At 7:31 am an officer investigated a two vehicle property damage accident in the 200 block of E. Russell St. Julie Neal of Jefferson was eastbound on Russell St driving a 2013 Nissan Rouge. She advised the sun was in her eyes, obscuring her vision. Neal struck the rear of a parked 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck owned by Paula Upton of Jefferson. Neal was cited for failure to maintain control. Damage to the front end of Neal’s Nissan was estimated at $3,500. Damage to the rear of Upton’s pickup truck was estimated at $2,000. At 11:30 am Jefferson officers were assisted by the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Iowa State Patrol with the execution of a narcotic search warrant at 502 West Lincoln Way. Suspected narcotics and narcotic-related items were seized from the residence. Charges are pending lab results on the seized items from the DCI Lab in Ankeny.

At 12:54 pm an officer started an investigation into stolen items from the cart shed at the Jefferson municipal golf course. The theft occurred the previous day. At 3:43 pm Jessica Kinsey reported a neighbor had backed into her 2010 Chevrolet Impala as it was parked on the street in the 500 block of N. Chestnut St. The officer spoke to the neighbor, but could not find any evidence to support Kinsey’s claims. The officer exchanged insurance information between the two owners. At 7:54 pm staff at the Super 8 hotel advised of a stray cat attempting to enter the business. The officer caught the cat and placed it in the animal holding facility. At 8:55 pm a complainant reported her vehicle had been chased by a pickup truck after the vehicle had swerved into her lane on S. Elm Street. The officer is investigating. At 9:30 pm officers began an investigation into an assault reported to have occurred at a residence in the 500 block of N. Oak St.

Sunday, Sept. 18: At 7:02 am a complainant reported a political sign had been vandalized at Elm and W. Lincoln Way. Someone had painted on the sign. The officer is attempting to gather video surveillance from area businesses. At 9:04 am a complainant reported his daughter’s vehicle had been broken into overnight at Greene County High School. Someone had broken out a window and removed her wallet from the vehicle. The officer is attempting to get video from the high school to aide in the investigation. At 7:47 pm a complainant reported an overnight burglary to a vehicle parked in the 1200 block of Rushridge Road. A small amount of change had been removed from the vehicle.

Saturday, Sept. 17: At 2:21 am a complainant reported a burglary at a residence in the 300 block of E. McKinley St. A small safe had been removed from a closet in the residence. It was reported that the safe contained currency, a camera, and other personal papers. At 8:55 am an officer investigated a two vehicle property damage accident at N. Elm St and Central Ave. Pamela Miller of Jefferson was northbound driving a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis in the 1000 block of N. Elm St. As Miller approached the intersection with Central Ave, a vehicle left the posted stop sign and struck her vehicle. The 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, owned and operated by Gary Turner of Jefferson, had stopped and proceeded into the intersection without yield to oncoming traffic. Turner’s vehicle had a reported $1,000 in damages to the front end. The Miller vehicle had $2,500 damage to the left rear corner of the vehicle. Turner was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. At 9:55 am a complainant reported an overnight burglary to her vehicle parked in the 200 block of E. McKinley St. Someone had broken out a window of the vehicle with a cinder block and stole, her purse. The officer is investigating. At 12:02 pm a complainant reported a raccoon with a jar stuck on its head on Park Ave S. The officer was able to remove the jar from the raccoon’s head. At 2:52 pm an officer assisted at Greene County sheriff’s deputy at S. Elm St and W. Vest St. The deputy had stopped a vehicle reported as a careless driver. The driver was arrested by the deputy for operating while intoxicated. The officer assisted in having the vehicle towed to the Impound Lot.

Friday, Sept. 16: At 11:11 am a resident captured a loose dog at 500 S. Locust St. The officer placed the animal in the animal holding facility. At 3:49 pm staff at Casey’s General Store (location not provided) gave an officer video of a theft of alcohol that occurred at the business Sept. 14. The officer has developed a suspect and is investigating. At 3:51 pm officers were advised that a fight was going to occur between juveniles in the Hy-Vee parking lot. An officer checked the area but did not locate anyone. At 10:16 pm a complainant reported the theft of medications from a residence in the 1200 block of Westwood Drive. The officer was given numerous names that had been at the residence during the time of the theft. The officer is investigating. At 11:26 pm officers were called to Sparky’s One Stop for a reported female there who had been assaulted. The female was transported to the Greene County Medical Center for evaluation by a medical doctor. She was not cooperative with the officer, so no investigation can be conducted without her cooperation. At 11:38 pm a complainant reported an injured deer in the roadway at Westwood Drive and Hillcrest. The officer was busy at ER, so a deputy dispatched the deer and removed it from the roadway.

Thursday, Sept. 15: At 6:19 am a county secondary roads employee reported the theft of a county-owned pickup truck from his residence in the 200 block of W. Russell St. The secondary roads department located the vehicle near Goose Lake, northwest of Jefferson. The 2015 Chevy Silverado pickup truck had severe damage and was a total loss. The police department and the sheriff’s office conducted interviews after evidence was gathered from the vehicle and developed a suspect. A deputy has arrested Kevin Armando Montoya, 19, of Jefferson and charged him with theft- first degree and criminal mischief- first degree (both Class C felonies), driving while revoked (serious misdemeanor), and theft- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. At 9:15 am a Greene County Community School District bus driver brought a school bus violation form to the LEC. A vehicle had passed the stopped school bus at E. Lincoln Way and Cedar St. The officer is investigating the event. At 1:25 pm a complainant reported an overnight burglary to her vehicle parked in the 600 block of S. Oak St. Currency and a diabetes kit were removed from the vehicle. At 7:48 pm staff at the emergency room at Greene County Medical Center advised an officer of a female with a dog bite at ER. The officer investigated the event and learned that the female had entered a friend’s residence without knocking first. A small dog belonging at the residence approached her and bit her calf. The officer verified the animal was current on its rabies vaccination. The event was not the animal’s fault, as it was provoked by the friend entering the residence without knocking. The city of Jefferson animal ordinances does not support the dog being deemed vicious or Illegal under the circumstances of the event. At 10:36 pm an officer investigated a two vehicle backing accident at Wild Rose Casino. Pauline Kuhl of Jefferson attempted to back her 2004 Honda Civic into a parking space but struck a parked 2006 Kia Sportage owned by Jack Williams Sr of Jefferson. Kuhl’s vehicle had a reported $500 in damages. The Williams vehicle had minor damages, estimated at $250. No citation was issued as the accident occurred on private property, outside of the roadway.

Wednesday, Sept. 14: At 11:57 am while on patrol officers spotted a subject driving who they knew to be barred from driving in the state of Iowa. A traffic stop was performed in the 300 block of N. Elm St. Michael Dean Laub, 49, of Rippey was arrested for driving while barred (aggravated misdemeanor)*. The vehicle was towed until proof of ownership can be provided to officers. At 3:10 pm a complainant reported her juvenile son had been involved in a fight at Russell Park with another male juvenile. The officer is investigating. At 3:32 pm a complainant spoke with an officer concerning a male American bulldog missing from a residence in the 400 block of E. Harrison St. The complainant suspects the animal was taken as she does not believe it could slip out of the collar he was wearing. At 3:50 pm officers were called for a third time that afternoon to a residence in the 500 block of W. Harrison St where a home visit was being conducted by Department of Human Services workers. The home visit was escalating. While officers were present, a female walked away from the residence and began yelling at neighbors in the area. Amber Marie Benavides was arrested for disorderly conduct (simple misdemeanor)*. At 4:03 pm a complainant reported a stray dog bothering children at a residence in the 500 block of S. Cedar St. Officers were tied up on an arrest and could not respond at the time of the call. Ganoe provided a possible owner of the animal. Officers will follow up with the owner. At 10:56 pm a traffic stop was performed in the 200 block of W. Clark St. The officer recognized the driver of the vehicle and had knowledge his driving privileges were revoked in the state of Iowa. Justin Ray Lopez, 18, of Jefferson was arrested for driving while revoked, OWI test failure (serious misdemeanor)*.

Tuesday, Sept. 13: At 3:27 pm an officer arrested Kyle Cuddy on two fail to appear arrest warrants. Cuddy had failed to show up for court on burglary- third degree and theft- fifth degree charges.

Monday, Sept. 12: At 7:44 am a resident reported horses out in the 800 block of N. Maple St. A neighbor assisted the officer in getting the horses back in the lot. At 11:45 am a resident brought a stray cat to the LEC. The officer placed the cat in the animal holding facility. At 11:53 am an officer removed a feral cat from a live trap in the 400 block of E. Wilcox Way. At 1:21 pm a resident reported a loose dog that had broken its chain in the 300 Block of W. Harrison St. The officer contacted an owner for the animal, who came home and caught the animal. At 3:05 pm an officer assisted a Greene County deputy with the arrest of a female at a residence in the 600 block of S. Olive St. The arrest stemmed from a driving complaint between Grand Junction and Jefferson on County Road E-53. At 5:16 pm a complainant reported the theft of a cellular phone from a former roommate. The officer is investigating. At 5:47 pm Genesis Development staff reported two separate thefts from client residences. A gaming system was taken from a client’s room at a residence in the 600 block of S. Wilson. Fishing equipment was taken from the garage at another residence in the 600 block of S. Wilson. The officer is investigating. At 8:40 pm management at Shopko reported the theft of a rental carpet cleaning machine. The officer is investigating.

Sunday, Sept. 11: At 8:25 am staff at the Greene County Fairgrounds reported criminal mischief to the Freedom Rock in the 600 block of E. Lincoln Way. Someone had painted scripture on the rock. The paint was still fresh and was removed by fair staff. At 7:33 pm officers were advised of a barking dog in the 600 block of S. Olive St. They spoke to animal’s owner, who was working to correct the issue. At 10:57 pm an officer spoke to a resident in the 300 block of N. Vine St about neighborhood complaints about her animal barking. The resident will work to fix the issue.

Saturday, Sept. 10: At 6:05 am an officer investigated a backing accident in the parking lot at Wild Rose Casino. Jered Lewis of Boone attempted to back his 2005 Pontiac Aztek from a parking space but struck a parked 2001 Ford Escort owned by Destiny Frees of Perry. A Both vehicles had a reported $700.00 in damages to the rear bumpers. Lewis was cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability- accident related. Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $700. At 2:55 pm officers investigated a two vehicle property damage accident at W. Lincoln Way and Elm St. Kendra Harms of Glidden was eastbound on Lincoln Way driving a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu owned by Cynthia Jo Harms. She stopped as posted and waited for traffic to pass the intersection. As Harms attempted to turn north onto Elm her vehicle was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet Impala owned and operated by Mariah Bartley of Jefferson. Bartley had stopped but did not yield the right of way. Bartley was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $500. Damage to Harms’ vehicle was estimated at $1,500. At 3:45 pm officers were called to the Hy-Vee parking lot for a reported hit and run accident. Witnesses advised of a vehicle attempted to back from a parking space and striking a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse owned by Gary Hoffman of Jefferson twice before leaving the area. Damage was estimated at $200. Working with the witnesses, the officers located the vehicle involved, a 2001 Ford Taurus owned by Marjorie Beecher and operating by Jeanie Beecher of Jefferson. Damage consistent with being involved in the accident was estimated a $2,000. The officer completed an accident report with his findings. At 5:48 pm officers arrested Zachary Waters, 20, of Jefferson on two outstanding arrest warrants – one from the JPD for traffic violations and another for a probation violation*.

Friday, Sept. 9: At 6:49 am two complainants reported yard decorations were stolen from 307 W. Greenewood Road. At 3:42 pm officers investigated a two vehicle property damage accident at W. South and S. Elm St. Steven Coffin of Grand Junction and Emma Larson of Jefferson were northbound in the outside lane. Coffin changed lanes to the inside, and then attempted to change back to the outside lane, but cut off Larson. Larson’s vehicle struck the rear of Coffin’s vehicle. Coffin was cited for failure to maintain control and failure to provide proof of financial liability. Damage estimates for his 2006 Saturn Ion and for the 2008 Chevrolet Impala Larson was driving (owned by Robert Larson) were not listed. At 7:17 pm officer were requested at a residence in the 100 block of E. Monroe St for a domestic situation. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Rachel Nicole Fields, 27, of Jefferson for domestic abuse assault- simple*.

Thursday, Sept. 8: At 3:56 pm an officer witnessed and investigated a two vehicle property damage accident at W. Harrison and S. Vine St. Melissa Lynn Belthius of Harcourt backed her 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe from a parking spot in the on S. Vine. As she did so, she struck a parked 2014 Chrysler Town & County minivan owned by Mark Alan Vander Linden of Jefferson. Damage to Vander Linden’s vehicle was estimated at $500. Belthius’s vehicle sustained light damage. Belthius was cited for unsafe backing upon highway and fail to prove security against liability – accident related. At 7:52 pm a complainant reported a burglary had occurred at a residence in the 400 block of W. Sanford St. Items had been removed from an enclosed deck on the property. The officer is investigating.

Wednesday, Sept. 7: At 8:13 am an officer was called to Greene County High School for a reported assault between two male students. Charges are pending in the matter. At 9:15 am a complainant requested assistance at a residence in the 700 block of W. Harrison St for her juvenile son who was refusing to go to school. The officer worked to diffuse the situation and drove the juvenile to the high school. At 10:02 am an officer located a stray dog near Madison and Elm St. The officer placed the dog in the animal holding facility. At 1:39 pm an officer arrested a male juvenile at Greene County High School on an outstanding JPD juvenile arrest warrant for criminal mischief- fourth degree (serious misdemeanor)*. The warrant stemmed from the investigation into criminal mischief to the Doreen Wilber statue in June. At 9:23 pm The Dwelling Place requested an officer to check on a subject living in a U-Haul trailer behind the church at 303 East Gallop Road. The officer made contact with the male subject. He was given a time period to remove the trailer from the property and return it to the U-Haul dealer, as his rental time period had ended several days ago.

Tuesday, Sept. 6: At 12:35 am an officer spoke with a female walking in the 600 block of W. Adams St after the dispatcher had received a cellular 9-1-1 hang-up call from the area. The female advised she had called 911, but did not need assistance anymore. At 5 am staff at Kum & Go reported a gas drive off. A customer put $7 worth of fuel in a Dodge Charger and left the area without paying. At 11:11 am a complainant reported a female trespassing in the 500 block of Stanford St. At 7:21 pm staff at Kum & Go turned in a bank card that had been found by a customer and given to store clerks. The officer learned the card belongs to a female in Gowrie. He made contact with the Gowrie police department and the female and learned her purse had been stolen over the weekend from her vehicle in Gowrie. The card had been used at a bank in Jefferson. The officer is working to obtain video of the ATM transaction to identify a suspect. At 7:44 pm a complainant reported to officers she was walking in the area of Lincoln Way and Pinet Streets. She advised she watched a small boy with a large knife stabbing at trees in the backyard of a residence in the 600 block of Lincoln Way. The officer made contact with the child’s parents at the address, who remedy the issue. At 8:21 pm staff at Sparky’s One Stop reported a gas drive off. A customer had pumped $23 worth of fuel into a dark Dodge Charger and left without paying. At 11:27 pm an officer checked a 9-1-1 hang-up call from 1000 W. Washington St. The officer found all was well at the address. ******** An arrest warrant has been requested for Nicholas Scott Lytle, 32, of Jefferson for criminal mischief- fourth degree (serious misdemeanor)*. The charge stems from an investigation that began on Aug. 28 at a residence in the 600 block of W. Adams St. A female at the residence alleges Lytle forced open the door to her residence after she would not let him inside. The door was damaged during the event.

Monday, Sept. 5: At 5:03 pm a complainant requested officers at a residence in the 200 block of N. Maple St for a reported assault occurring there. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Megan Marie McCormick, 29, of Jefferson for assault- simple*. At 6:14 pm a complainant requested officers at a residence in the 500 block of N. Chestnut St for a reported fight occurring between a couple. The officer’s investigation led to the arrests of Dray Rivera, 26, of Jefferson and Amber Marie Benavides, 23, of Jefferson for public intoxication and disorderly conduct, both simple misdemeanors*. At 7:39 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief occurring to her vehicle in the 300 block of S. High St. The vehicle had been scratched down the entire side. The damage was estimated at $500 to repair. ******* An arrest warrant has been requested for Shane Detlef Coil, 36, of Jefferson for theft- fifth degree (simple misdemeanor)*. The warrant was requested in connection to a shoplifting event at Hy-Vee on July 17.

Sunday, Sept. 4: Routine activity reported.

Saturday, Sept. 3: At 5:20 am a complainant reported his juvenile daughter had been sexually assaulted as they camped with a group of campers at 1200 S. Mulberry St. The officer began an investigation into the reported event, but the family has returned home to Hinton and has not returned the officer’s calls. At 9:45 am a complainant reported a burglary to his garage in the 500 block of N. Maple St. The complainant reported eight lawn care equipment items missing from the unlocked garage. The value of the tools is a reported $800. The complainanty provided the officer a suspect and the investigation continues. At 12:19 pm a resident reported an injured deer in the 1300 block of Kirkwood St. The deputy was busy across the county, so the officer assisted a citizen with a deer tag and removal of the animal. At 10:56 pm officers were called to Wild Rose Casino for three subjects being disruptive and not leaving when asked to do so. A female had damaged a glass sign at the business while eventually leaving. Damage estimated to the sign was $500. Two subjects had left before the officer’s arrival. The officer is investigating.

Friday, Sept. 2: At 10:50 am a Jefferson resident reported she fell victim to the “grandchild phone scam.” She reported receiving a call from someone she believed was her grandson. He advised he was in jail for OWI and needed $1,600 cash sent by Western Union to get out of jail. A few minutes later, she was contacted by a male advising he was her grandson’s attorney. She was instructed to go to a local WalMart and wire the money, which she did. She was then called back by her grandson advising he had struck another vehicle during the event and needed additional money wired for the vehicle damage, or he would not be released. She was instructed to go to a different local WalMart and send an additional $1,200. The resident began to become suspicious. She spoke to the WalMart manager, who advised her she had been scammed. She came and reported the scam to an officer. These types of phone scams are virtually untraceable and cannot be investigated. At 2:58 pm an officer performed a traffic stop with a vehicle at W. Central Ave and Elm St. The officer had previous knowledge that the driver was barred in the state of Iowa. Christopher Hollis Christian, 35 of Grand Junction was arrested and charged with driving while barred (aggravated misdemeanor)*. At 7:11 pm an officer was advised of a trespass that had just occurred in the 1300 block of Pioneer Ave. The property owner was following the vehicle into Jefferson. The officer stopped the vehicle at Oak and Adams St. He gathered the driver’s and passenger’s information and forwarded it to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, since the event occurred in the county.

Thursday, Sept. 1: At 8:52 am an officer investigated a one vehicle property damage accident at the Hy-Vee parking lot. Corina Coleman of Jefferson left the driveway while leaving the parking lot at HyVee and ended up high sided on a large landscaping rock. Coleman advised the sun was in her eyes and she could not see as she left the parking lot. No damage was reported to her 2002 Ford Explorer. At 1 pm staff at Casey’s (N. Elm) reported the theft of a customer’s cell phone. A customer had forgotten his cell phone on the counter after checking out. A male, next in line, grabbed the cell phone and placed it in his pocket before leaving the business. Officers were shown the male on store surveillance video. He was wearing a Direct TV uniform. Officers made contact with Nick Hall of Boone through his Direct TV supervisor. Hall brought the cell phone to the LEC and turned in over to officers. Charges are pending. At 1:30 pm management at Kum & go reported receiving a counterfeit $10 bill from customer. The officer is working with the US Secret Service, as several counterfeit bills have surfaced in Jefferson lately. At 3:51 pm officers were advised of a two vehicle property damage accident that occurred in the 100 block of Ram Drive. Officers arrived and could not locate the vehicles. A short time later the officer was advised the fathers of the two juvenile drivers involved were working it out and no report was needed. At 7:10 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief occurred at the restrooms located at the Greene County Fairgrounds. The officer spoke to juveniles in the area and developed two juvenile male suspects. The officer spoke to the juveniles and their parents about the event. The investigation continues.
